Safety Training

The required training provides employees and 成人影片 with information needed to work safely and comply with State and Federal regulations.  Contact the Department of Veterinary Medicine's Laboratory & Safety Coordinator (907-474-1968) if you have questions about required training.

For all training, save your certificate or email documenting successful completion and forwarded directly to DVM's Laboratory & Safety Coordinator.

Below is a list of training, current as of 10/18/2024. These training modules are in addition to required IACUC listed separately.

  • DVM Employees must complete all listed training.
  • Students must complete all trainings marked with a diamond (铀).
  • Training requiring annual renewal is marked with an asterisk (鈭).
  • You must complete it with a score of 100% for the training requirement to be completed.

 

UA Safe Title IX Training

The UA Safe Title IX Training 铀︹垪 is required annually between July 1st and October 31st. Visit the Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability's training page to learn more and take the training.

Each of the above training modules is available at   in 鈥淢y Community/ Learning Library. Any training in the Tier 1- UA Employee Required training list must be completed. FERPA is under Tier 2- Position required.

  1. UAF Laboratory Safety 铀 (refresher every 3 years)

  3. UAF Hazardous Waste Management (initial) 铀
  4. UAF Hazardous Waste Management Refresher (annual after initial) 铀

Instructors are also expected to read and follow the Department of Veterinary Medicine Chemical Hygiene Plan. 

 

Reporting Training

Completion confirmation from UAF EHSRM modules are sent to you via email and can be forwarded directly to DVM's Laboratory & Safety Coordinator.

Completion confirmation from myUA is available through the Dashboard/成人影片 Me/Training and Development/Completed tabs. From the Completed list, open the training you are confirming. Then print that screen to a pdf file and email to the DVM's Laboratory & Safety Coordinator. You can open multiple training confirmations at the same time and save them to a single pdf, or do them individually.

When you right click the browser page you should have an option to print the whole page 鈥 choose pdf instead of an active printer. Alternatively, there is a small white "i" icon next to your name at the top right of the screen. If you hover your cursor over that you will have the option to print the page.

 

Other Training as needed:

Any employee who will be driving for the department or transporting 成人影片 must complete Driver's Safety Training (located under 鈥淥ther Training 鈥渢ab). The training is required every 3 years after the initial training but driver must complete a UAF Driver form and DMV Driving record annually.

Other trainings (e.g. Bloodborne Pathogen, Biosafety Cabinet, Hazmat Shipping, etc.) may be required depending on the work that you do. It is your responsibility to contact the DVM's Laboratory & Safety Coordinator, 907-474-1968, to arrange additional training.  You must complete all training requirements before you begin work.

 Task-Specific Research Lab Training

Required for those who work with the specific hazard in a research laboratory setting 鈥 Verify requirements with your faculty mentor

  • Understanding Safety Data Sheets (highly recommended)
  • Methylene Chloride
  • Benzene
  • Chloroform
  • Laboratory Safety for Non-Laboratory Personnel
  • Hazardous Material Shipping Awareness
  • Hydrofluoric Acid (in-person training; UAF Industrial Hygiene: 907-474-6771)
