Occupational Safety

The goal of the Campus Safety Office is to avoid injuries in the scope of work and mitigate hazards on campus.  We provide workplace inspections and work with you to ensure a safe work environment.  We also provide training in many subject areas to meet your needs.

Did you know that ice cleats are available free of charge from the EHSRM office?  Stop by and pick up some cleats or call to schedule a "Cleats for the Feet" open house, and we will come to your department to provide training and cleats.  Please contact this office to obtain cleats for community campuses.

Contact us for questions about the field safety emergency plan, to develop Standard Operating Procedures, or with a concern.  We've got you covered.

The UAF Field Safety Plan is intended to provide UAF travelers with a sound action plan to cope with emergencies encountered during official travel at field locations within the United States and abroad. Your Department/Institute Director must also review and acknowledge (approve) your plan prior to travel. A basic Field Safety Plan template is found below.

Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is the breaking down of a job into its component steps and then evaluating each step, looking for hazards. Each hazard is then corrected or a method of worker protection (safe practice or PPE) is identified. Additional requirements for worker training, certification, authorization, etc., may also be identified for the process or job. The final product is a written document….a standard of safe operation for a particular job.
