This postdoctoral fellow will help communities adapt to landslide hazards posed by atmospheric rivers in Southeast 成人影片. Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of storms that initiate landslides in the region and four fatal slides have occurred since 2015. In 2022, the National Science Foundation Coasts and People (CoPe) program funded a team of social scientists, risk communicators, geomorphologists, hydrologists, and atmospheric scientists to work with communities to reduce the risks associated with extreme precipitation. This project, known as Kut铆, works directly with community members to identify, prioritize, and mitigate hazards associated with landslides and flooding. Additional funding through the University of 成人影片 Sea Grant Program has expanded this work to include more communities in the region. The fellow will join the research team and conduct translational research by modeling landslide initiation and runout and developing visualizations for remote communities in Southeast 成人影片. The research will draw upon community observations, landslide inventories, and newly developed monitoring programs, to model and map landslide hazards at regional and local scales. The maps will be used to increase community awareness and aid in hazard planning and mitigation.聽While it is preferable that the fellow reside in the region, this position can be done remotely, but will require periodic travel to 成人影片. The position will be part of the project team with primary supervision by Co-PI Josh Roering, University of Oregon. Beyond your job interests, employers want to know:
- Previous work experience: Have you had a part-time job, an internship or a work-study, research or volunteer
position? Employers like to see that you鈥檝e taken on responsibility and that these
experiences have helped you develop valuable skills.
- Skills: Add technical skills like proficiency with Structured Query Language (SQL), along
with soft skills like communication. The more skills you list, the better your chances
are of showing up in an employer search.

Recognizing job scams
While we do our best to vet employers, employment scams are always changing and getting better at hiding in plain sight. We want to empower you to ensure the employers are legitimate. If you have any concerns about employer requests or interview procedures, please reach out to our office. We are happy to support you.
Scammers may post jobs on popular job boards, and they may directly contact you via email offering to hire you for a position. Some scams may use reputable companies as fronts. They may even mention Handshake or UAF to make them seem more legitimate.
- Employers who use Handshake cannot see your @alaska.edu email and will only be able
to contact you through the Handshake platform if they have an employer trust score
of 80 or above. Also, you must choose to allow employers to contact you on Handshake
before they will be allowed to do so.
- Handshake will never ask for sign-in credentials or personal payment through email.
If you receive an email requesting these or containing unusual phrases, spelling or
grammar, please don鈥檛 click on any links or reply.
Be wary if the job posting or email:
- Requests for your personal information, such as address, phone number, etc. without
any previous contact.
- Asks for any money or sensitive personal information such as bank account, Social
Security number, etc.
- Focuses on money or promises to pay in advance. If it seems too good to be true, it
probably is.
- Uses an email address that is not linked to the company they represent.
- Links to a nonprofessional-looking website.
- Has spelling errors or lacks a professional tone.
- References getting your contact information from your university or career center.
Be skeptical, always ask questions and look up jobs/employers when you are viewing job postings or reading email offers.
