Anja Maijala harvests Franklin Brussels sprouts at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm on the University of ³ÉÈËӰƬ Fairbanks Troth Yeddha’ Campus. Seeds for slow-maturing Brussels sprouts must be started indoors several weeks before planting outside.
³ÉÈËӰƬ’s short growing season means many vegetables need a head start indoors to give them enough time to mature.
Learn how to start seeds for these long-season crops in a free statewide webinar led by Glenna Gannon, assistant professor of sustainable food systems for the University of ³ÉÈËӰƬ Fairbanks Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.
Gannon will provide an overview of materials, seed-starting media and best practices for starting healthy vegetable transplants.
The webinar is Wednesday, March 12, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. .
