Dear UAF community,

Throughout the last week, I have received several questions about how UAF is responding to the emerging coronavirus threat. As I am sure you are aware, the World Health Organization declared a “public health emergency of international concern” in regards to the virus and is monitoring the situation.

Our response is being guided by our emergency operations plan, which includes sections on a wide variety of situations, including pandemics. Our emergency manager, Doug Schrage, is in contact with his colleagues at UAS, UAA and UA statewide and is keeping me up-to-date on the situation.

Although there are currently no confirmed cases of the virus in ӰƬ, we have UAF employees and ӰƬ around the world. We are monitoring the situation beyond ӰƬ, particularly in locations where we have ӰƬ studying abroad.

The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 travel advisory telling the American public not to travel to China. The UA administration is discussing specific procedures for university travelers, but until those are issued, UAF employees and ӰƬ should continue to follow guidance from the and the .

At this point, there are no closures or event cancellations planned.

If you would like more information about the situation including resources for prevention of respiratory illnesses, please visit UAF on Alert at for some helpful links. If the current status changes, we will update you and post information there.
