House committee takes budget testimony from Fairbanks today On the afternoon of Thursday, March 2, the House Finance Committee will begin taking public testimony on the state鈥檚 operating budget. 'Fences' to be screened at Arctic Java The Nanook Diversity and Action Council will screen Denzel Washington's 2016 film "Fences," an adaptation of a 1983 play by the same name written by August Wilson. The film details the experience of an African-American father with race relations in 1950s America and explores themes of masculinity, family and the American dream. The screening will be held on March 7 at 7 p.m. in Arctic Java. There will be a discussion about the film afterwards.

Peter MacKeith photography exhibit opens for First Friday The "2017 Peter MacKeith Memorial Photography Exhibition: Ascension" will open Friday, March 3, with a reception in Wood Center's Arctic Java. The photos will be on display beginning at 5 p.m. The reception event is free and open to the public. Frozen Lenses, the UAF student photography group, is hosting the exhibit through March 19 in partnership with the Wood Center Student Activities Office.

UAF Major Mania on March 10 This year鈥檚 Major Mania will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, March 10, in the Wood Center multilevel lounge. Once again, Major Mania will be combined with Inside Out, a preview event at UAF that brings more than 100 local high school juniors and seniors to campus.
