Biography

Lindsey received a B.A. in Biochemistry/Biophysics from Amherst College in 2019. While she originally had a premedical focus in college, she developed an interest in aquatic ecology during a semester spent sailing and performing scientific research off the coast of New Zealand during her junior year. After college, Lindsey spent 3 years living in Seattle working in a cancer research lab and applying to medical school, participating in search and rescue, teaching Basic Alpine Climbing for the Mountaineers, and taking classes in the School of Aquatic and Fisheries Science at UW. The sense of ecological curiosity that was sparked by the classes she took post-grad and time spent recreationally outdoors ultimately convinced her to change career paths, and she is excited to combine her love of glaciated environments with her interest in salmonid life histories through her graduate research. In her free time, Lindsey enjoys climbing, skiing, trail running, SAR, and brewing kombucha.

Research Overview

Lindsey is interested in investigating how glacial biogeochemistry impacts Coho salmon growth and metabolism. She aims to study differences in flow regime and hydrologic chemistry between glacial-, snow-, and rain-dominated watershed systems and how these influence growth rate and carbon assimilation in juvenile salmonids.
